MITCHELL
County records indicate that there were three separate MITCHELL families in the county before 1800. There was a John Mitchell on the North Fork, a John Mitchell on the South Fork (MIA), and a Peter Mitchell on the South Fork (MIB). The John Mitchell on the North Fork (m. Margaret [Teter?]) reportedly went to Lewis County, WV, sometime after 1809 [Can anyone verify this?]. The families of the other two Mitchell pioneers are outlined below. Many researchers have inaccurately named John Mitchell (MIA2) as a son of Peter Mitchell (MIB), but county records (e.g. will of John Mitchell (MIA) and deed records) make this highly improbable. It is not known whether there is any relationship between John (MIA) and Peter (MIB) Mitchell.
