"The village of Brandywine stands on a part of the Keister homestead. Frederick, Jr., was a famous hunter. When he had secured a considerable amount of game in the Shenandoah Mtn. he would build a signal fire on the High Knob, that the smoke might be understood at his home as a signal from him. John D., present representative in State Legislature and energetic farmer, lives on a part of the original tract." (Morton, 1910)
