Welcome to the Lincoln County, West Virginia, site for the
WVGenWeb Project,
part of the USGenWeb Project, a massive undertaking to provide free resources for genealogists. All of the GenWeb pages are maintained by volunteers.
Lincoln County was first formed in 1867 from Kanawha, Boone, Putnam, and Cabell counties. Lincoln was required to return land to Putnam County, but added parts of Wayne and Logan counties.
Lincoln was 53rd of our 55 West Virginia counties and was named for Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, who had been assassinated two years earlier, in April 1865.

My name is Marilyn Gouge and I am the volunteer coordinator for this county site. It is "always under construction" and if you have any suggestions for improving this site, please feel free to contact me.
I'm *not* an expert on Lincoln County and cannot respond personally to queries (I will include information as soon as I learn it and I cannot, at this time, tell you anything more than what is on these pages),
but there are other resources that can provide additional information (scroll down the page for options), including the Rootsweb Lincoln County WV mailing list and message boards, the historical society, libraries, and other links.
If you have a family webpage that you want included here or if you want to list the surnames you are researching, e-mail me
with that information and I will include it as I update. In addition, if you have any books or other resources that include Lincoln County and you would be willing to do lookups, please let me know.
One more thing — since I am the coordinator of other West Virginia GenWeb county pages, please make sure you leave the name of the county on the subject
line so I know your information is about Lincoln County.
ATTENTION!!! This site is getting a facelift!
There are many outdated links and there is new information available. So please bear with us as we perform badly needed updates.
Thank you.
