WILL OF JOHN TURLEY, SR.
1750-1851

In the name of God, Amen. I John Turley, Senr. of the County of Kanawha and State of Virginia being infirm in body but of sound mind and disposing memory, and calling to mind the uncertainty of human life and being desirous to dispose of all such worldly estate as it has pleased God to bless me with, do hereby make my last will and testament in manner following that is to say
First I give and bequeath to my granddaughter Sarah Turley daughter of Andrew Turley deceased five dollars to be paid to her when she shall marry or attain the age of 21 years.
Secondly Having heretofore given to my sons John Turley, Nathan Turley, and Berryman Turley all which I ever intend to give them, and fully as much or more than I can give to my other childxen, I hereby give to my said sons John, Nathan and Berryman one shilling each and no more.
Thirdly: I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Martha Turley all the rest and residue of my estate both real and personal of what nature or kind soever it may be including all my monies on hand or which shall at the time of my death be due and owing to be, for and during the term of her natural life: and after her death I give and bequeath the same as follows that is to say, I give and bequeath 1/6 part thereof to the children of my daughter Dorcas Lacy, deceased, late the wife of George Lacy to be equally divided among them, and the other 5/6 thereof I give and bequeath to my 5 daughters namely Mary Miller wife of Jonathan Miller, Lucey Pauley wife of Mohaney Pauley, Sally Parsons wife of Frederick Parsons, Melinda Parsons wife of Richard Parsons, and Druzilla Midkiff wife of Samuel Midkiff to be equally divided among them.
Fourthly: It is my will and desire that my executors hereinafter mentioned shall as soon after the death of my wife as may be convenient sell all my estate herein before devised given or bequeathed for the best price that can be obtained for the same, and divide the monies or proceeds arising therefrom in conformity with the bequests herein before made and specified.
And lastly I do hereby constitute my sons in law Samuel Midkiff and Mohaney Pauley executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other or former wills or testaments by me heretofore made.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 24th day of Sept. 1842.

This last will and Testament of JohnTurley Senior deceased was this day presented in Court and proved- by the oaths of James T. Hill and Samuel Hutson subscribing witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded.
