WILL OF  ELIZABETH JAMES SLAUGHTER

I Elizabeth James Slaughter of the County of Kanawha and Commonwealth of Virginia being of sound mind and duly …. Of the uncertainly of life & the certainly of death do hereby make and publish my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say:

First - I give and bequeath to my father Reuben Slaughter son: my negro woman Phillis and her future increases for and during the term of his natural life and after his decease I the same to my brother Goodrich Slaughter his heirs executors and assigned forever.

Secondly - I give my niece Elizabeth Slaughter daughter of Goodrich Slaughter her heirs executors administrators and assigned forever my negro girl Patsy and her future increase and also my feather bed and furniture. Item - I give to my niece Julian Slaughter daughter of my brother Robert S Slaughter her heirs executors administrators and assigns forever my negro girl Violet with her increase. Item - I give to my niece Caroline Slaughter daughter of Goodrich Slaughter her heirs executors and administrators my negro girl Anne and her future increase. And lastly I do hereby … and appoint my two brothers Goodrich Slaughter and Reuben Slaughter executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all others or former wills and testaments by me hereto for made.

In testimony where of I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this .. day of March in the year of christ one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.
