WILL OF JOHN MCCOY
At a court held for Kanawha County at the Court House thereof on Monday the 13th of January, 1823.
The last will and testament of John McCoy decd was this day proved by the oath of Peter Blankenship a witness thereto and continued for further proof.
And at a court held as aforesaid on Monday the 10th of March, 1823.
The last Will and Testament of John McCoy was this day presented in Court and fully proven by the oath of John Hansford one of the subscribing witnesses, thereto and ordered to be recorded.
Kanawha County Virginia June 5, 1823.
I John Mccoy of the County and state aforesaid, being old and inferne in body but sound in mind and know that it is apointed for all me to die, I make this my last Will and testament, That is to say..
1st, I commit my sole to that God that gave it, my boddy to the dust from when a it came and wish to be buried in a Christian like manner and that my funeral expences and just debts be paid out of personal estate.
2nd I give to the lawful begotten children of my son Samuel McCoy four negros namely Ned, Dolly, Gary, Hennery, and that my son Samuel McCoy have all the use and benefit of them during his natural life and at and after the death of their father my some Samuel they are the property of the above named children to be divided among them in equal proportions among them all
3rd I give to the lawful begotten children of my daughter Elizabeth Grinston three negros named Sillaugh, Mannuel, & Hannah and that my daughter Elizabeth Grinston have the use and benefit of the above named negros during her life and at and after the death of my daughter they are the property of the above named children to be equally divided among them all.
4th I give to my grandson John McCoy, son of my daughter Elizabeth Grinston one negro boy named Jurdin for his own use and benefit and also one third part of my personal estate and cash to be applied to his education by my executors
5th I apoint my son Samuel McCoy and my son in law William Grinston my executors to execute this my last will. Therefore revoking all other wills, I proclaim this my last Will and Testament, Whereunto I have set my hand and seal this 3rd day of June, 1822.

And at a court held aforesaid on a Monday the 14th day of February, 1825.
This Inventory of appraisement of the Estate of John McCoy deceased and amounting to the $2,424.3.. was this day presented in court and ordered to be recorded.
The appraisement of John McCoy Estate agreeable to an order of Court to us directed we the undersigned have appraised the following property that is to say..
Sellah a negro girl $350.00
Hannah a negro girl $300.00
Manuel negro boy $400.00
Jorden negro boy $240.00
Ned negro boy $450.00
Cary a negro girl $250.00
Dolly a negro girl $100.00
Howy a negro boy$150.00
etc.
