INVENTORY AND APPRAISEMENT BILL OF THE ESTATE OF HENRY HARMON

At a Court held for Kanawha County at the Court House thereof on Tuesday the 14th of December, 1824.

This Inventory and appraisement Bill of the Estate of Henry Harmon decd amounting to the sum of $2,941.95 was this day presented in Court & ordered to be recorded.

1 negro man named George $420.00

1 negro woman named Rose $300.00

1 negro girl named Rhoda $200.00

1 negro boy named Thomas $175.00

1 negro girl named Eliza $150.00

1 negro man named Harry $400.00

1 negro boy named Benjamin $250.00

Kanawha County Court 14th December, 1824

On the motion of Polly Harmon widow of Henry Harmon decd by her attorney, It is ordered that Joel Shrewsbury, S Andrew Parks and John D. Shreswbury or any two of them lay .. and assign to said Polly Harmon her Dower in the negro slaves and lands of her late husbands.

And at a court held as aforesaid The commissioners appointed to lay off and assign to Polly Harmon the dower in the land and slaves of her late husband this field their report and the same being examined by the court is ordered to be recorded ….which report is in the record & figures

The undersigned commissioners appointed by the court of Kanawha County to lay off and assign to Polly Harmon her dower in the negro slaves and land of her last husband Henry Harmon dec. Have proceeded to perform and discharge the duties of them required by the annexed order of said court after being duly sworn, and report their proceedings as follows..That on 21st day of January 1825 the said commissioners upon the land of Sr Henry Harmon dece and for the purpose of laying off the widows dower in the said lands. Begin at the upper corner of the back line of the survey of land on Kanawha River continuing seventy three acres and three fourth of an acre called Mofs’s corner thence 380 w on S back line to a gum tree with the top broken off near the side of the road thence across the bottom to the Kanawha River to a maple tree marked on the bank of said river, thence up the river to the mouth of Field’s creek & thence up the creek with its meanden to Mosses Comes the beginning, supposed to contain about 24 acres of bottom land the commissioners have also laid off a small lot of land up Field’s creek out of the tract called Joseph McBridges survey beginning at a large poplar stump near the head of a spring, thence across the creek bottom to a forked b… near the foot of the mountain & up the S creek on both sides of the same supposed to contain four to six acres of cleared tilable land as part of . Polly Harmons Dower in the lands of her dec husband and the commissioners also assign to .. Polly Harmon as portion of her dower the privilege of using the timbers which may be necessary for the support of the land assigned to her for her dower as out of the aforementioned survey of land up Fields creek called & known by the name of McBride survey – The commissioners assigned the said Polly Harmon for her dower in the Slaves of her deceased husband two of the Slaves the one a negro man named George and the other a negro girl named Rhoda they being one third of the unit of valuation of all the Slaves all which is respectfully reported
