Scholarship Information

The Elizabeth Ludington Hagans - Colonel John Evans Chapter is pleased to announce the establishment of the Elizabeth Ludington Hagans DAR Scholarship for those attending West Virginia University.  This scholarship was designed to honor our namesake, who was not only the first native-born West Virginian to join the DAR in 1893, but was also one of the first ten women to attend West Virginia University.

First priority will be given to descendants of West Virginia DAR members.  The DAR member can be living or deceased; the applicant can be from in-state or out-of-state.  First priority will also be given to current West Virginia Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.) members.

The applicant should have a minimum of a 2.8 GPA and have evidence of financial need.

Any West Virginia DAR descendant or C.A.R. member interested in applying for the 2011-2012 school year should send the following information to Susan Arnold by
February 15, 2011:

  • Name

  • Home Address

  • Social Security Number

  • DAR relative's name, chapter, and national number

  • College major and year

We will forward eligible recipients to the WVU Financial Aid Office.  Applicants should also complete appropriate forms with the WVU Financial Aid Office.

If there are no eligible DAR descendants applying, second priority will go to junior and senior History majors from West Virginia.  Preference will be given to those with an American History emphasis, with interest in either education or historic preservation.
