It is located on State Street (Rt 85 & 17), the only way through town.
The earliest dates for land records at the Boone Courthouse is 1847 and there are two early court order books but the writing is so dim you can hardly read them and they are very fragile and not out on the shelf for general use.  These are the only books that didn't get burned during the Civil War.  All other records start in 1865 when local government was reorganized after the War.  The BCGS does have earlier birth and marriage records that were bought from the Virginia State Archives but those have been published in  the Kith and Kin books.

It's easy to find since the business section of town is only two streets, State and Main Streets (Main St. is a one way street.)  All of the Society's genealogy collection of books and census records (on microfilm) are at the main Boone Madison Public Library in what used to be the vaault when that building was used for a bank.  They have the usual assortment of machines:  a copier (25 cents per copy), micro-film reader/printer (15 cents per copy) and a couple of computers.
