Berkeley County, West Virginia Biography of R.K. WRIGHT


         R.K. WRIGHT was born in Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, January 19, 1812, the son of James and Jane (Kennedy) Wright. His parents were both deceased by 1884. Mr. Wright�s maternal grandmother, Jane Boyd, was once captured by Indians near Chambersburg and was held in bondage for a number of years.

         Mr. Wright was appointed deputy prothonotary of Franklin County in October 1849 and served three years. He moved to Berkeley County April 2, 1868, where he owned and cultivated a farm in the Falling Waters district.

         On January 25, 1853, R.K. Wright and Matilda Adams, born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, on October 23, 1831, were married. She was the daughter of Samuel R. and Mary E. (Porter) Adams. Her father was born September 29, 1772, and died September 9, 1835, and her mother, April 17, 1785-April 3, 1853. Her parents were married January 12, 1804.

         The following were children of R.K. and Matilda Wright: Lulu J. Wright, James O. Wright, Walter D. Wright, Anna B. Wright, Jemima S. Wright, and Mamie E. Wright. Jemima died April 3, 1876.

         The Wright�s mailing address was Falling Waters, Berkeley County, West Virginia.
