Berkeley County West Virginia Biography of David WILLET


         David WILLET was born in Adams County, Pennsylvania, on December 3, 1826 and moved to Berkeley County April 1, 1849. His parents were George and Elizabeth (McKincey) Willet of Adams County. His father was born July 1794 and died in 1872, and his mother, March 1794-1877. David Willet’s grandfather was a soldier in the 1812 war and was one of the earliest settlers in the vicinity of Harpers Ferry.

         On October 30, 1851, David Willet and Mary A. Hott, who was born in Berkeley County on March 29, 1823, were married. She was the daughter of Jacob and Anna (Frieze) Hott, who were, at the time of the book printing, living in Frederick County, Virginia.

         David and Mary A. Willet lived in Gerrardstown, Mill Creek District, Berkeley County, West Virginia, where David was a miller. They had nine children: Ludia A. Willet, September 5, 1852-?; David H. Willet, February 5, 1854-?; John W.M. Willet, July 2, 1855-?; Mary J. Willet, January 14, 1857-?; Arthur L. Willet, February 6, 1859-?; Lucy E. Willet, December 13, 1860-May 22, 1862; George W. Willet, March 10, 1863-?; Jacob H. Willet, February 3, 1865-?; and Floyd C. Willet, October 11, 1869-?.
