Berkeley County, West Virginia Biography of John William TABB


         John William TABB was born in Hedgesville district, Berkeley County, West Virginia, May 15, 1832, the son of Edward Franklin and Katie A. (Cunningham) Tabb, natives of that county. John William�s great-grandfather was one of the earliest settlers of what became Berkeley County; he was brought to America in early childhood by his parents who settled on the eastern shore of Virginia.

         In 1859, in Frederick County, Virginia, John William Tabb and Mary Ann McKown (of that county) were married there. She was born February 17, 1841, the daughter of Warner and Katie A. (Silver) McKown, who moved to Berkeley County about 1824. John William and Mary Ann had 10 children: Annie A. Tabb, March 22, 1860-?; Emma W. Tabb, September 2, 1862-?; Eddie L. Tabb, December 11, 1865-?; William E. Tabb, January 3, 1868-?; Eugene C. Tabb, December 9, 1869-?; Floyd A. Tabb, October 9, 1871-?; Mabel V. Tabb, December 14, 1873-?; Edith B. Tabb, August 1, 1877-?; Katie Tabb, July 2, 1875-before 1884; and Harry S. Tabb, January 26, 1881-?.

         John William Tabb was a farmer and stock-raiser in Gerrardstown, Berkeley County, West Virginia.
