Berkeley County West Virginia Biography of Ward STEWART


         Ward STEWART was born in Berkeley County, West Virginia, on March 14, 1840. He was the son of Robert and Harriet (Ward) Stewart, also natives of that county. Ward�s father. Robert Stewart, was a soldier in the Civil war, entering the Confederate army at the outbreak of the war and serving until bad health compelled him to leave the army. His died in the fall of 1875 in his fifty-second year.

         On December 15, 1870, Ward Stewart and Mary Ridgeway were married in Darkesville, Berkeley County. She was the daughter of Josiah and Nannie (Lewis) Ridgeway, residents of the county where Mary was born December 15, 1855. The children of Ward and Mary Stewart were Ella Stewart, May 15, 1855-?; Robert Stewart, June 22, 1874-?; Samuel Stewart, October 2, 1876-?; William Stewart, May 18, 1878-November 10, 1881; John Stewart, May 30, 1880-?; and Nannie Stewart, January 26, 1882-?.

         Ward Stewart was a farmer in Darkesville, Arden district, Berkeley County, West Virginia.
