Berkeley County, West Virginia Biography of George H. SPEROW


         George H. SPEROW, the son of Isaiah Brown and Elizabeth Jane (Small) Sperow, was born in the Falling Waters district of Berkeley County, West Virginia, September 24, 1855. His father was a soldier in the Confederate army. George Sperow is a descendant of German pioneer settlers of Berkeley County and was a farmer living in the Opequon district, Martinsburg, that county.

         At Martinsburg, on December 4, 1878, George Sperow and Ella R. Crowel, born in Berkeley County August 24, 1857, were married. She was the daughter of John Ferdinand and Elizabeth B. (Randall) Crowel and was descended from a family of pioneer settlers, her grandfather emigrating to Berkeley County from Germany many years before. George and Ella Sperow had one child: Brown Ferdinand Sperow, March 15, 1881-?.
