On December 25, 1868, David Speer and Rebecca Bechtel, daughter of David and Mary (Plough) Bectol born in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, January 16, 1840,
were married in Chambersburg, that state. They had two sons: Edgar Lacy Speer, June 27, 1870-?; and John Foster Speer, June 12, 1879-?.
David Speer was a teacher and superintendent of public schools in Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia.
