Berkeley County, West Virginia Biography of Joseph D. SMITH


         Joseph D. SMITH was appointed Magistrate for the Arden District, Berkeley County, West Virginia, in 1904 and elected at the ensuing term. He continued in that office for 20 years and was defeated in the election of 1920. He was appointed by the County Court of Berkeley County to fill the unexpired term of Noble B. Kilmer, who resigned, and was elected in the fall of 1926.

         He was a volunteer during the flu epidemic in Berkeley County in 1918.

         He had four brothers, Dr. E.L. Smith, D.D.S. at Martinsburg, who was educated at the University of Maryland, Baltimore; T.G. Smith and Harry Smith, photographers, Martinsburg; and E.L. Smith, deceased by 1928.
