Frank Silver and Mary A. Gray were married in Hagerstown, Maryland on November 6, 1867. They had six children: Martha Silver, August 23, 1868-?; Gray Silver, February 17, 1780-?; Otilia Silver, October 1, 1871-?;
Frank Silver, September 3, 1873-November 17, 1877; Anna Silver, March 15, 1877-?; and Mary L. Silver, December 6, 1878-?.
Both Frank and Mary A. Silver were of Scottish descent. Five of the Silver brothers fled from Scotland to escape the wrath of the reigning monarch in England, and Frank Silver,
the great-great-grandfather of the subject of this sketch, was the son of one of them and was the first white child born west of the Susquehanna. Miss Gray�s grandfather, John Gray, also came from Scotland; her father represented Berkeley County in the state legislature in 1850.
Frank Silver was a farmer at Gerrardstown in the Mill Creek District, Berkeley County, West Virginia.

Frank SILVER, born in Berkeley County, West Virginia, on December 19, 1841, was the son of James W. and Martha J. (Henshaw) SILVER. In 1852 he moved to Frederick County and, when the Civil war started,
joined the Confederate army in the 1st Virginia Cavalry at Harpers Ferry. He was wounded in the head and foot at the battle of Roods Hill and was in the hospital about three months. Mr. Silver returned to Berkeley County in 1870.
