In August 1828, Richard Seaman married Rosanna Tate, born in Berkeley County in 1800 and died before 1884, the daughter of John and Rachel (Parnell) Tate. Her father was born in Ireland.
Richard D. and Rosanna Seaman had the following children: John E. Seaman, December 3, 1830-?; Rachel J. Seaman, 1833-November 1, 1852; Jonah Seaman, September 1836-?; and Richard H. Seaman, December 1837-?.
Berkeley County was represented in the State Legislature by Richard D. Seaman four years before the Virginias were separated, from 1855-1859. During the Civil war, he was a soldier in the
service of the Confederacy, serving through the war. Later he was a farmer in Darkesville, Mill Creek District, Berkeley County, West Virginia.

Richard D. SEAMAN was born in Berkeley County, West Virginia, on October 21, 1804, a son of Jonah and Jane (Downey) Seaman, former residents of the county who were deceased by 1884.
Richard Seaman�s great-great grandfather came to the United States about 1690, settling in New Jersey; it has been said he had the first house with a shingled roof in the valley of the Virginias.
