Berkeley County, West Virginia Biography of Joseph RANDALL


         Joseph RANDALL, son of George and Elizabeth (Randall) Randall, was born in Jefferson County, West Virginia, March 1, 1806. His parents moved to Berkeley County in 1808. Joseph�s grandfather, George Randall, along with his brothers Jacob Randall, John Randall, and William Randall, served in the Revolutionary war under General Washington. Jacob was killed at Bunker Hill and William died in camp on the James River. Joseph�s uncles, George and John Randall, were in the war of 1812.

         In December 1832, in Hagerstown, Maryland, Joseph Randall and Mary Jones, daughter of Francis and Susan (Wynkoop) Jones, residents of Jefferson County, were married. She was born in the latter county March 5, 1808. Joseph and Mary Randall had the following children: Sarah Randall, October 1833-?; Martha Randall, 1835-?; Susan Randall, 1837-?; Rebecca, 1839-?; Adrian W., 1840-?; and Margaret, 1842-?. Martha Randall lived in Jefferson County; the remainder in Berkeley County. The only son, Adrian W. Randall, served in the Confederate army in the Civil war.

         Joseph Randall�s business was contractor of public works and he and his family lived in the Opequon district, at Shepherdstown, Jefferson County, West Virginia.
