Berkeley County West Virginia Biography of Jonathan PHILLIPY


         Jonathan PHILLIPY was born in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, January 10, 1824, the son of Samuel and Katherine (Rauch) Phillipy, natives of Dauphin County, that state. He was of German descent.

         On September 9, 1847, in Champersburg, Pennsylvania, Jonathan Phillipy and Catherine Harbaugh, were married. She was born in Waynesboro, Washington County, that state, on July 23, 1825. They moved to Berkeley County on March 27, 1855. Her parents, residents of Franklin County, Pennsylvania, were Elias and Mary Magdaline (Weaver) Harbaugh. By 1884, her parents were both deceased, as was Jonathan Phillip�s mother.

         Jonathan and Catherine Phillipy had the following children: J.W. Phillipy, June 3, 1848-December 20, 1853; Samuel L. Phillipy, March 15, 1850-November 12, 1853; John H. Phillipy, March 12, 1852-?; Louis O. Phillipy, March 20, 1854-?; G.W. Phillipy, March 3, 1856-January 17, 1861; Mary C. Phillipy, April 15, 1858-? (lived in Franklin County, Pennsylvania); B.F. Phillipy, October 7, 1860-?; Anna E.K. Phillipy, August 24, 1864-?; and Charles S.S. Phillipy, July 14, 1869-August 11, 1872.

         For 27 years, Jonathan Phillipy was a farmer and a blacksmith in the Falling Waters district, Berkeley County, West Virginia; at the time of the book�s printing, he had a mailing address of Williamsport, Washington, County, Maryland.
