In Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, on January 18, 1866, Samuel A. Oiler and Rosanna Miller, born March 7, 1847 in that county, were married.
She was the daughter of Martin and Nancy (Landis) Miller, settlers of that county. Six children were born to the couple: Henry E. Oiler, February 19, 1867-?; John M. Oiler, November 4, 1869-?; Samuel S. Oiler, January 19, 1871-?; Addessa S. Oiler,
July 26, 1873-?; Nancy E. Oiler, October 3, 1876-?; and Franklin E. Oiler, September 2, 1881-?.
Mr. Oiler was a farmer in the Arden district, Darkesville, Berkeley County, West Virginia.

Samuel A. OILER, the son of Peter and Susanna (Henry) Oiler, residents of Perry County, Pennsylvania, was born in that county and state on April 8, 1843.
Samuel Oiler was a soldier in the Union army during the war between the states, enlisting first in the 130th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry under Colonel Ginn. He was in the battle of Antietam and was wounded in the right hip and in the head,
the latter from which he lost the sight of his eye. He was sent to Harrisburg hospital and spent seven months recovering. He reenlisted in the 187th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry and was at the siege of Vicksburg, fighting nearly non-stop for 90 days.
He was wounded again, transferred to the 87th Veteran Reserve Corps and honorably discharged at the close of the war.
