Elisha P. was a soldier in the Civil war, volunteering in 1863 and serving in the 46th Pennsylvania Infantry. He reenlisted in the 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry and was engaged at Nashville, Tennessee; at Mercer, Atlanta,
and Savannah, Georgia; South Carolina at Charleston, White Oak Bottom; at Mount Olive, Raleigh, Salisbury, and Black Swamp, North Carolina, and was wounded at White Oak Bottom.
In Huntington County, Pennsylvania, on January 1, 1866, he was married to Sarah R. Beard, who was born in that county June 30, 1845. Her parents were Theopolis and Phebe (Roberts) Beard; her father died
when he was 70, in 1871.The children of Elisha P. and Sarah R. Maconaughy were: Annie E. Maconaughy, October 3, 1866-?; Samuel S. Maconaughy; Daniel J.R. Maconaughy; David H. Maconaughy; Dorotha J. Maconaughy� George E. Maconaughy;
Sarah M. Maconaughy; and Phebe L. Maconaughy.
Elisha P. Maconaughy was a farmer in Hedgesville, Berkeley County, West Virginia.

Elisha P. MACONAUGHY was born March 28, 1845 in Huntington County, Pennsylvania. He moved to Washington County, Maryland, in 1878, where he farmed until he moved to Berkeley County in 1882.
His parents were John and Sallie (Price) Maconaughy. His father died in 1870 at 65, and his mother continued to live in Pennsylvania.
