Berkeley County, West Virginia Biography of John C. HUTSLER


         John C. HUTSLER was born in Berkeley County on August 26, 1846, the son of James William and Emily (Gibbins) Hutsler. During the Civil war, John C. Hutsler served as a drummer for the 7th Regiment Maryland Volunteers, 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, 5th Army Corps, Army of the Potomac. His father was a private in Company E, same regiment, and served until the close of the war. John Hutsler was an engineman for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, with headquarters in Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia.

         On November 6, 1876, in Martinsburg, John C. Hutsler and Hattie L. Snook, a daughter of Samuel and Harriett (Smith) Snook, were married. She was born in Berkeley County on June 11, 1853. They had one son:    J. Howard Hutsler, August 4, 1878-?.
