Berkeley County West Virginia Biography of John Conrad HOLPP


         John Conrad HOLPP was born in Bissengen, Wurtemberg, Germany, September 5, 1846, and emigrated to America in 1873, settling in the Falling Waters district. His parents, John and Mary C. (Fischer) Holpp, remained in Germany.

         In Hagerstown, Maryland, on June 9, 1870, John C. Holpp and Elizabeth Ann Hirsch, born in Berkeley County, West Virginia on January 11, 1848, were married. She was the daughter of Bartholomew and Mary M. (Geaise) Hirsch, who emigrated to this country in 1839 from Bavaria, Germany. (Note: the biography of Bartholomew Hirsch put his immigration date as 1829.)

         John and Elizabeth Holpp had five children: Jacob A. Holpp, April 22, 1871-?; John L. Holpp, May 11, 1872-?; Mary Magdaline Holpp, August 15, 1873-?; Barbara Rosa Holpp, February 21, 1875-?; and Catherine E. Holpp, April 30, 1877-?.

         Mr. Holpp was a blacksmith with a post office address of Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia.
