On November 20, 1866, John W. Hollida and Susan M. Couchman, born in Opequon district, Berkeley County on April 4, 1844, were married. She was the daughter of Henry and Sarah (Myers) Couchman. Susan Couchman�s brother,
George W. Couchman, was killed at the battle of Manassas in the Civil War.
John W. and Sarah Hollida had the following children: Sallie C. Hollida, November 9, 1867-?; J. Harry Hollida, August 11, 1869-?; George W.C. Hollida, March 19, 1872-?; Lee Marks Hollida, August 14, 1875-?; Lester Coe Hollida, July 15, 1877-?; and Lizzie M. Hollida, March 4, 1880-?.
Mr. Hollida served as magistrate in the Opequon district from 1874 to 1880 and was a farmer living in that district with a post office address of Sniders Mills, Jefferson County, West Virginia.

John W. HOLLIDA was born October 14, 1836, in the city of Hardscrabble, Berkeley County, West Virginia, to John W. and Catherine (Staley) Hollida. His father was born in Maryland and moved to Berkeley County when he was 2 years old;
his mother lived in Jefferson County in 1884. John Hollida was a soldier in the Civil war, serving two years in the 1st Virginia Cavalry under General Wickam and taking part in the battle of the Wilderness. A brother of his mother, Jacob Staley, was a soldier in the 1812 war.
