Berkeley County West Virginia Biography of Bartholomew W. HIRSCH


         Bartholomew W. HIRSCH was born in Bavaria, Germany, October 11, 1810, and emigrated to America in 1829. He was the son of John Hirsch, who was also a native of Bavaria and fought under Napoleon in 1814. Bartholomew settled first near Baltimore, at Elcots Landing; then to Berkeley County, West Virginia, November 7, 1839.

         He married another native of Germany, Mary Geaise, born in Bavaria in 1808, and they had seven children: Mary Hirsch, Sabean Hirsch, John Hirsch, Margaret Hirsch, Elizabeth Hirsch, Catherine Hirsch, and Jacob Hirsch.

         Mr. Hirsch was a farmer in the Arden district, with a mailing address of Martinsburg, West Virginia.
