On October 19, 1869, Marion L. Henshaw and Emily P. Payne were married; they had seven children, all living at home in 1884: Holmes Payne, October 5, 1870-?; Carter L. Payne,
December 15, 1871-?; Myra A. Payne, October 22, 1873-?; Mary R. Payne, September 6, 1875-?; Valley V. Payne, October 31, 1877-?; Daisey M. Payne, February 7, 1879-?; and Martin P. Payne, March 4, 1881-?.
Emily Payne was the daughter of Jesse and Jane (Wright) Payne, well-known residents of Berkeley County; she was born in that county on August 20, 1845.
Marion L. Henshaw was a soldier in the Civil War, serving in the Confederate Army at Harpers Ferry. In August 1863, he enlisted again, serving in Company K, 23rd Virginia Cavalry, until the close of the war.
He served mostly in the campaign of the Virginia Valley, fighting in all the battles. In addition to being a farmer in the Bunker Hill, Mill Creek District, Berkeley County, West Virginia, he served his district as president of the board of education since 1876.
