Berkeley County, West Virginia Biography of Daniel G. CUSHWA


         Daniel G. CUSHWA was born December 19, 1837, the son of Barnet and Catherine (Gehr) Cushwa. He served in the Civil war with the 1st Virginia Cavalry. Daniel Cushwa�s father, Barnet Cushwa, died in 1880 at the age of 65; his grandfather, one of the pioneer settlers of Berkeley County, was born November 21, 1774 and died August 2, 1833 (no name was given for the grandfather).

         On December 22, 1870, Daniel G. Cushwa and Lewellyn Burkhart, daughter of John D. and Maggie B. (Gibson) Burkhart, were married. She was born August 10, 1850. Her mother died in 1876 at 52 years old. Daniel and Lewellyn had the following children: Bernard G. Cushwa, June 16, 1874-?; and Oscar H. Cushwa, September 10, 1876-?.

         Daniel G. Cushwa was a resident of the Arden district where he had a flour mill and sawmill on Tuscarora Creek and was a farmer. His post office address was Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia.
