Berkeley County West Virginia Biography of John CHESNUT


         John CHESNUT was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, April 17, 1826, the son of George and Elizabeth (Edwards) Chesnut, residents of Fulton, Pennsylvania. John Chesnut moved to Berkeley County in 1882. His grandfather went to Berkeley County in 1790 from Philadelphia.

         On October 30, 1848, John Chesnut and Elizabeth Flora were married at McConnelsburg, Pennsylvania. Her parents were George and Rebecca (Simpson) Flora. John and Elizabeth had the following children: George W. Chesnut, November 3, 1849-?; Charlotte (Chesnut) Ranck, October 21, 1851-?, lived in Poweshick County, Iowa; James M. Chesnut, July 7, 1857-?, lived in Pennsylvania; Margaret E. Chesnut, June 22, 1860-?; Alice B. Chesnut, September 10, 1862-?; twins, Anna E. Chesnut and Martha J. Chesnut, May 24, 1865-?; and Flora E.D. Chesnut, March 4, 1869-?.

         Mr. Chesnut was a lumberman living in the Hedgesville district, with a mailing address of Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia.
