Berkeley County West Virginia Biography of John H. BOLTZ


          John H. BOLTZ was born in Berkeley County, West Virginia, June 7, 1820, the son of George H. (April 15, 1783 - August 13, 1858) and Catherine (Puls) Boltz (December 16, 1788 - July 17, 1872), and was a farmer in Bunker Hill, Mill Creek District, Berkeley County, West Virginia.

          On February 22, 1852, John H. married Rebecca Gruber at Harpers Ferry, Jefferson County, West Virginia. She was born in that county June 6, 1830, the daughter of Jacob (November 16, 1794 - June 29, 1881) and Martha (Baughman) Gruber, both natives of Pennsylvania. John H. and Rebecca had two children: Henrietta R. Boltz, born December 9, 1852, who married a Mr. Anderson, and moved back home after his death; and William M. Boltz, born February 7, 1854, who also lived in the Mill Creek District. William M. married his first wife on January 18, 1876; she was born in 1856 and died October 30, 1876, leaving one child (note: Neither the wife nor child�s name was mentioned in the bio). His second wife, Virginia D. Lloyd, was born in 1862 and died October 28, 1882, leaving two small daughters, Clara N. Boltz and Edith M. Boltz.

          John H. Boltz lived in the same house in which he, his father, and his two children were born and, as of 1884, the house was more than 100 years old.
