Berkeley County West Virginia Biography of George W. BENDER


         George W. BENDER was born January 6, 1827, in Washington County, Maryland, and moved to Berkeley County with his parents, John W. and Elizabeth (Seidestic) Bender, in 1844. His father died in 1865 at the age of 75 and his mother died before 1884.

         The first wife of George W. Bender was Rebecca Pitzer, who was born in 1835 and died in 1863. Their children were: Joseph A. Bender who died in 1867; Henry Bender, July 10, 1856-?; Harriet B. Bender, July 30, 1857-?; and Sarah B. Bender, June 12, 1862-?. He married again in Berkeley County, in November 1863, to Mary Ann Smith, born in Berkeley County September 20, 1831, the daughter of David Smith. Children born to George and Mary Bender were William Bender, June 12, 1867-?; Charles S. Bender, August 27, 1869-?; Luther C. Bender, April 10, 1871-?; and Ida E. Bender, April 13, 1873-?.

         Mr. Bender was a farmer near Martinsburg in Bedington, Opequon district, Berkeley County, West Virginia.
