My ggg grandmother was Alice Harper but I do not know her maiden name. We think it could be Littleton because one of her sons was named Lewis Littleton Harper. Family tradition says that our family came from Harper's Ferry, W. Va. We believe that Alice's husband was Joseph Harper. Alice and Joseph were in S.C. as early as 1771 according to land transactions. Alice was in the 1790 census but apparently Joseph had died. A tract of land that the children sold in 1797 was designated as land granted to Alexander Harper. Any information on Joseph, Alexander or Alice would be appreciated..Also, Alice's son, Malachi (my gg grandfather) married Jane Jenkins. They lived in S. C. for a while but relatives claim that she was buried in Harper's Ferry, W. Va. I would like to have information about Jane Jenkins.

Looking for the parents of two brothers, Nathan and Isaac CATLETT, who moved from the Berkeley/Morgan Co. (Sleepy Creek?) area in 1817 to Hardin/LaRue County KY. Nathan Catlett was born in Berkeley Co in December of 1788. Isaac Catlett was born either in 1802 or 1803 in Berkeley Co or in Maryland. Family stories say that the father had disowned Nathan for marring a german girl from Jefferson Co. Supposedly the father died about 1816 at which point the two brothers went to KY. The stories state that the mother was of French stock and may have remarried and moved to Indiana.

John was born in Chester County, PA in 1748 and moved to Berkeley County. In 1775 he enlisted in the service while living in Berkeley County. I wonder if you have any information on him. I do not know when he moved to Berkeley, but I am especially interested in knowing if he married there. I have heard two names associated as wives: Ann Cunningham and Margaret Langley. John eventually moved to Frederick County and then down to Gwinnett Co., GA.

I am researching JOHN MC DADE of Berkley County, VA. John was originally (as best I can tell) from Chester Co. PA, born in 1748, then resided in Berkeley County where he joined the service as a Volunteer Rifleman (I believe in June, 1775) under the command of Capt. Hugh Stephenson. At one point during the war, he may have been under the command of George Washington. He eventually went to Frederick Co.
