I am beginning research in this area of WV. My father-in-law was born in
Berkley County in 1925. His name is Arthur Wilson son of Florence Banks
Wilson Bell b.18 Aug 1897 Shepherdstown WV d. 22 Oct 1954 Atlanta GA buried
in Elmwood Cem, Shepherdstown. All we know of the father of Arthur is what
is listed on his birth record. Benjamin Hartzell is the name. We have
some grave yard inscriptions of various Benjamin's and others, but this
tells us nothing.
We do not know where the Banks came from in Florence's name. We know
nothing of the Wilson's. It was family knowledge that Florence's parents
disowned her because of the birth out of wedlock.

I am seeking information about the Coons, Coontz, Kuntz, family of
Martinsburg, W. Va. They lived in Martinsburg during the mid to late 1700's
and migrated to Ohio about 1800. Henry Coons married May Ann Howe February

Tuscarora Church in Martinsburg.
Henry's parents were born in Germany and it is unknown when they
immigrated but Henry was born about 1765 and served in the Berkeley
militia in 1789.
There are a number of Coons in the Berkeley Co. records but I have not
been able to determine their relationship with certainty.

The Biographical & Portrait Cyclopedia of Fayette Co PA by Samuel T.
Wiley, 1889, says in a biography of Daniel DOWNER, son of Levi DOWNER and
Elizabeth HALL that "her father, Hugh HALL, was a native of Berkeley
Springs, Virginia." This may refer to what is now Berkeley Springs
(Morgan Co) WVA.
A family genealogy indicates that on 21 April 1789, Hugh Henderson HALL
married Nancy BUTLER, daughter of Capt. Joseph BUTLER and Rachel TRIPLETT
presumably of Loudoun Co VA. Seek documentation/proof of this marriage.
Hugh Henderson HALL was the son of John HALL, whose will dated 9 Sept
1791 was recorded in Fayette Co PA Will Book No. 1, Page 65. The will
names wife, Elizabeth; sons Hugh and Thomas; daughters Margaret,
Elizabeth, Rose and Sarah Boyle; and a grandaughter Nancy, daughter of
son Thomas. A family genealogy says that the mother of Hugh Henderson
HALL was Catherine HENDERSON. The will advances the possibility that
Elizabeth was the second wife of John HALL, father of Hugh HALL. Seek
documentation as to marriages of John HALL and proof of mother of Hugh
HALL.
The HALL family lived in Union Twp, Fayette Co PA beginning about 1785.
Hugh Hall moved his family from Fayette Co PA to Butler Co OH (Fairfield
Twp) in 1811.

A great+grandfather, Andrew Lilburn, son of Francis and Mary Lilburn, was

and is thought by some to have been the daughter of Jonah Seaman. The
name of Andrew's wife is not known, but his son, Jonah Lilburn, named his

Henderson. According the 1787 census (tax lists) of Berkeley County

I have some Abstracts from Virginia's North Neck Warrants and Surveys
that show that the Bailey family (and William Bailey in particular)
bought a great deal of land in Hampshire/Berkley Counties in the late
1760s and the 1770s. I have getten this information from two different
sources and I am therefore assuming that it is fact. The surveys were

Also mentioned in these surveys and warrants are John Bailey, the Yoal
family, the Lerue family, and the Siler family, just to name a few. Also
metioned is Sleepy and Back Creeks.

Ohio. There he married Zion McPhaill(b. 1811 in OH).
My Saunders line went on to have a Zion SAUNDERS who married a
ARCHIBALD MCVICKER, and he was from Loudoun co and Monongalia co.
The families all moved west to OHIO and IN. Can you help?
