OUR ONLINE
DATA AT
findmypast.co.uk

Our Society does not have the resources, in terms of funds or personnel, to be able to make our data available online ourselves.

NBI caseWe therefore take advantage of the preferential terms that the Federation of Family History Societies has negotiated with findmypast.co.uk. They host our data for us, and our Society receives royalties based on a percentage of the fees researchers pay them to access our data.

These royalties help to partially compensate us for the reduction in income from the sales of our publications, such as census indexes, now that so much data is available online from the various providers.

NBI caseNATIONAL BURIAL INDEX

This started with the National Burial Index (NBI), now in its third edition. The Index helps researchers to find burial records, to complement the International Genealogical Index (IGI) which is a finding aid to baptisms and marriages. For a list of the parishes and the years covered, see the table showing the Coverage for Monmouthshire.

This data was originally submitted by our former Abergavenny and Monmouth Branch, and therefore the parishes will be found in those two Registration Districts.

OTHER PARISH REGISTERS

Our branches are now submitting much of our parish data to findmypast.co.uk and to its sister site www.genesreunuted.co.uk. It will appear in their "Parish Records Collection 1538-2005" section (this is split under each of the three sub-headings under the 'Births, Marriages and Deaths' tab in the menu at the top of the page).

Over a period of time this data will be added to as the necessary work is completed so bringing in much needed revenue to the society and allowing us to continue providing this local information for those seeking out their ancestry in this area. Remember that Find My Past is now available freely in many local libraries and record offices throughout the Country and the information found on Genes Reunited is also to be found on Find My Past.
