WELCOME TO SHAWANO COUNTY AHGP PROJECT

Greetings and a WARM WELCOME  to the American History and Genealogy Project (AHGP) for Shawano County, Wisconsin.  My name is Anne and I'm your hostess for the site.  I've been hosting the Shawano GenWeb Project for about 6 years now and wanted to share some of the project's work with the AHGP group.  Currently, I'm residing in the New England area but my own roots and family go back to the Shawano area and some of the very first settlers in Wisconsin.

We're always looking for information to post, volunteers to help and we have PLENTY of space for your contributions.  Just email me at the  link at the bottom of the page and we'll get your items posted!

The ultimate goal of this project page is to make FREE GENEALOGY RESEARCH available on the Internet.  We do not post information on living individuals, mainly because I would not want my personal information nor my family's online for anyone to view.  Other than that, most information will be posted if it pertains to SHAWANO GENEALOGY.  Because this is a NEW PAGE, some of the links will take you back to the Shawano GenWeb Project until I get the AHGP site up and running.  I'm sure you won't mind the short-term inconvenince as the Shawano GenWeb Project has TONS of information and links.

I hope you will enjoy your visit to our site and will check back periodically as we post new items as they are sent in.  AND, if you are interested in hosting a county site for WI AHGP, just click on the link at the bottom of the page and our Wisconsin host, Tim Stowell, will be happy to hear from you!!!

And be sure to check out the MESSAGE BOARD at rootsweb!  We are proud to have almost 11,000 obits and queries!  I can't stress enough on the obits -- in my research, these are "mini-biographies" and a good obit will have at least 2 or 3 generations listed and sometimes provide you with more clues than you can imagine.  And while you are there, remember to post yours!  And we are always looking for pictures and photos for the website!

Now, on to the GOOD STUFF!!

Shawano County, created in 1853 from Oconto County, covers 892.6 sq miles.    It is divided into 25 townships as shown below.  Most records are kept on the county level, with the county seat located in the city of Shawano.
