Portage County is centrally located in the state of Wisconsin. It's neighbors are both [Marathon] and [Shawano] to the north, [Wood] to the west, both [Adams] and [Waushara] to the south, and [Waupaca] to the east.

The county seat is Stevens Point, in the town of Hull. The county was formed Dec 7, 1836 from Brown and Crawford Counties. The earliest registration dates are Birth 1866, Marriage 1859, and Death 1876.
