1. ALBERT CURTIS SANFORD was born March 07, 1852 in Ashippun, Dodge County, Wisconsin, and died November 08, 1925 in Ellsworth, Pierce County, Wisconsin. He married IRENE BLAIR May 24, 1874 in Hartford, Dodge County, Wisconsin, daughter of NATHAN BLAIR and SARAH BAKER.

The death of Albert Sanford was announced in the Pierce County Herald on November 12, 1925.

Albert Curtiss Sanford, for many years a resident of this village and prominent in work of the M. E. church, died Sunday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clarence Bacon, in Ellsworth Township, aged 73 years.

Before coming to Ellsworth, to reside Mr. Sanford was a prominent farmer of the Ono section.

His demise followed an illness of about three years duration. Mr. Sanford had been confined to his bed since last January. Albert Curtis Sanford was born March 7, 1852, in Ashippun, Dodge county, Wis. He was married on May 24, 1874 to Irene Blair. In 1877, they came to Pierce county and resided at Ono until they moved to Ellsworth in 1898. To this union were born two children--Dr. Charles W. Sanford, Prairie Farm and Mrs. Clarence Bacon, town of Ellsworth and a sister, Mrs. Louis Borchert, of Chippewa Falls, and eight grand children also survive.

Notes for IRENE BLAIR: In 1860, Irene is listed on the Federal Census as living with her parents, Nathan and Sarah Blair in Rubicon, Dodge County, Wisconsin. Also listed is sister Permelia.

The death of Irene Sanford was announced in the Pierce County Herald on September 19, 1929.

Mrs. Irene Sanford died last Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Bacon, with whom she had made her home for a number of years. Deceased was an old and highly respected resident of this section.

Irene Blair was born at Hartford, Wis., on February 7, 1854 and there spent her youthful days and grew to womanhood. She was married to A. C. Sanford May 24, 1874. They lived in Dodge county for two years, moving to Pierce county in February, 1876 and settling on a farm at Ono where they lived until April, 1899 when they moved to Ellsworth. Here they resided for many years, later making their home with their daughter, Mrs. J. C. Bacon.

Mr. and Mrs. Sanford were blessed with two children, one son and one daughter--Dr. C. W. Sanford and Mrs. Bacon, Mr. Sanford died four years ago. Mrs. Bacon is survived by her two children, two grand children and several other relatives.

Mrs. Sanford surrendered her life to the Christian faith and continued true to the Savior and the Methodist Episcopal church of which she was long a member, until the gracious providence carried her away to a sunnier clime.

Funeral services took place at the M. E. church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Selander officiating. Interment was beside her husband in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Cloudy in the morning and evening and rained. Fine most of the day. I and Irene went to Hartford and got married at the parsonage. Stayed at Blairs all day. 2. CHARLES WESLEY SANFORD was born September 13, 1877 in Ellsworth, Pierce County, Wisconsin, and died November 17, 1936 in Prairie Farm, Barron County, Wisconsin. He married (1) JULIA GERTRUDE BROWN October 07, 1902 in St. Paul, Minnesota, daughter of CLARK BROWN and MARGARET ???. He married (2) UNKNOWN Abt. 1910 in Illinois. He married (3) GERTRUDE CHARLOTTE GEHRKE July 19, 1925 in Stillwater, Minnesota, daughter of ERNEST GEHRKE and EMELIA NASS.

Dr. C. W. Sanford died Tuesday at his home at Prairie Farm. He was about 55 years old. Pneumonia caused his death. The funeral was held this afternoon from the Prairie Farm church. Mrs. Sanford was the formerly Gertrude Gehrke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Gehrke of this city.

Charles sent Gertrude Brown to Colorado Springs and Sarasota Florida because of tuberculosis, but it killed her and most of her family. Charles was a dentist in Merril Wisconsin. Went to Arlington Heights and remarried ??? who also died. He then went to Prairie Farm to practice dentistry and married Gertrude Gehrke.

Notes for JULIA GERTRUDE BROWN: The marriage of Charles Sanford and Miss Gertie Brown was announced in the Pierce County Herald on October 9, 1902.

Dr. C. W. Sanford, of Spring Valley, and Miss Gertie Brown, of this village, were married in St. Paul on Tuesday.

During their short marriage, Charles and Gertie had one child, Everett Albert Sanford on November 24, 1903. Everett's birth was registered on December 2, 1903 in Pierce County.

Julia Gertrude, known as Gertie, died February 4, 1907 of tuberculocis. The Ellsworth Record published an obituary on February 7, 1907:

Word was received here Tuesday of the death of Mrs. Chas. W. Sanford, of tuberculosis, at their home in Merril, Wis. Her health had been failing for some time and she visited both Florida and Colorado in hopes of deriving benefits from the change. She was 31 years of age and is survived by her husband, one son, aged 3, two brothers, Clark and Arthur Brown, a sister, Mrs. N. A. Smith of Grand Rapids, Mich. and her mother Mrs. C. W. Brown, of Merrill.

Mrs. Sanford's girlhood was spent in this village where she was popular with her associates. The friends of the family deplore her early death and extend sympathy to the young husband.

The remains will be shipped here and funeral services will be held at the M. E. Church in this village Saturday, at 1 of clock, followed by interment in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Gertrude Sanford, whose death we announced last week, was born February 8, 1876, and died February 4, 1907. She was united in marriage to Charles W. Sanford, October 7, 1902.

She leaves beside her husband and little son, aged 3 years, her aged mother, Mrs. C. W. Brown, of Merrill: one sister, Mrs. N. A. Smith, of Grand Rapids, Mich. and two brothers, Arthur and Clark of Washington. The deceased was born in Ellsworth, grew up in our midst and was beloved by all who knew her. The bereaved husband and relatives have the sympathy of all in their great loss.

The funeral was held from the Methodist church on Monday afternoon, Rev. John Haw conducting the services. Interment was at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Ogilvie, Mrs. Edna Gerrish and Ward Andrews attended the funeral of Mrs. Charles Sanford at Ellsworth Monday.

Mrs. Sam Gerrish received a message last week announcing the death of Mrs. Gertrude Sanford, her cousin Charles Sanford's wife, of Merrill.

Julia Gertrude Sanford is buried in her family plot in the Maple Grove Cemetery of Ellsworth, Wisconsin along with her parents and brother and sister. (A copy of her death certificate is available from the pre 1907 Death Index for Wisconsin, Lincoln County, Volume 1, Page 436.) The list of tombstones includes:

Notes for GERTRUDE CHARLOTTE GEHRKE: The marriage of Charles Sanford and Gertrude Gehrke was announced in the Dunn County News, August 27, 1925, (page 3, column 1).

At a party given at her home on 9th Street, Tuesday evening, Miss Gertrude Gehrke announced her marriage to Dr. Charles Sanford of Eau Claire on July 29, 1925.

The table was decorated in pink and white with a centerpiece of Orphelia roses. The announcements appeared in little envelopes tied with white ribbon held by little Kewpie place cards. Covers were laid for twelve.

Her marriage was a surprise to both her family and friends. Dr. and Mrs. Sanford will make their home at Prairie Farm, where the groom has established a dentist's office.

The marriage of Everett Sanford and Margaret Ackerman was announced in the local paper.

Roxbury, Nov. 8--Everett A. Sanford of Roxbury and Miss Margaret Catherine Ackerman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Ackerman of New Philadelphia, O., were married Saturday at New Philadelphia. They returned late Sunday night from their honeymoon, and are staying at the Lea Croft. They will soon move into an apartment on the upper floor of the former Mrs. Estella Ballard house on Main street. Mr. Sanford has been a Roxbury resident for the past three years, and is one of this town's popular and well-liked young men. The bride is a talented musician, having majored in violin at college.

Marriage Notes for JOHN SANFORD and DAWN ALLEN: Mr. and Mrs. John Sanford, above, will reside at 1524 Winslow street, Racine upon their return from a wedding trip to Door County peninsula. Miss Dawn Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Allen, Cadott, and John Sanford, Eau Claire, were married in the chapel of St. Rose of Lima Catholic church, Cadott. Father Peter Leketas performed the two o'clock double ring ceremony.

3. LULA ESTHER SANFORD was born July 11, 1883 in Pierce County, Wisconsin6, and died 1934 in Ellsworth, Wisconsin7. She married J. CLARENCE BACON.

There were seven children, three girls and four boys-Viola, Lorena, Adith, Woodrow, Omar, Charles Frederick and Bob. Adith had the most beautiful auburn hair I ever say. Lula also had beautiful hair as did her mother. Charles Fred was known as Fred and he and Charles were very close and Fred and his wife visited me and John all through the years. He lived in Washington, he died of a heart attack last year, had been wearing a pacemaker for years. Bob also died, never married.

Adith is an artist, paints pictures, really made a good living at it, started out raising chickens with a farmer she married, I think they divorced.
