Union was part of Town of Brussels till 1865.



YEAR FORMED:

 Nov 1865, set off from Town of Brussels.



FIRST SETTLERS:

Charles GIRONDAL, farmer (1856) born in Belgium in 1815 ,

Gabriel DEKEYSER, farmer, born in Belgium in 1800 (1856) (Also See Town of Brussels).



ETHNIC GROUPS:

Belgians.



OCCUPATIONS:

Farming, Fishing, Hotel keeping, Storekeeping.

 

EARLY BUSINESSES:

Schofield Sawmill-Proprietors: SCHOFIELD and LATHAM -burned in the Fire of 1871.

(2) St. Francis De Paul Catholic Church (Marchand): LOCATION: Duvall, Town of Red River, Kewaunee Co.- address: 104 Rocky Road in Duvall. Ethnic Background: Belgians. (3) Marchand, Wisconsin-1899 Plat Book shows a church at about 200 Washboard Road where St, Francis De Paul Cemetery is still located (1990).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The Town was named “Union” because the people united in their public matters and pulled together.
