* Ephraim Moravian Cemetery*

INDEX -1977 + some pictures & OBITS

updated 20 Sep 2010

* YOU WILL FIND THE LOCATION OF THE EPHRAIM MORAVIAN CEMETERY ON THE TOWN OF GIBRALTAR MAPS PAGE! *

LOCATION:  Cemetery is located behind the church in the Village of Ephraim, Section 24, Gibraltar Township.  It can also be reached by taking County Trunk Q to Norway Road, then on Norway Road until willow Road.  The cemetery is on the corner of Norway Road and Willow Road.  The easiest way is to take the church driveway and take the dirt road that leads from the end of the driveway to the cemetery.  A sign at the cemetery entrance read "Ephraim Moravian Cemetery 1853".  It is maintained in good condition and work was being done when copied.

Copied August 13, 1977 by Judy SRNKA, Eileen SLABY and Beverly DIEFENBACH and typed by Sally TREICHEL all of the Wisconsin State Old Cemetery Society.

Retyped for the PGS Website by Sue HOHNEKE on 1 Oct 2009.  Dates have been changed where needed to read: dd-mmm-yyyy for uniformity on the PGS Website.

A couple of pictures were taken of the cemetery sign and a stone by Sue HOHNEKE in Nov 2008 and have been linked here.  Also, some family stone pictures contributed by Nikkie HOWARD in Sep 2009 are linked to this index.

If you would like to contribute your pictures to this page, please send them via e-mail to the PGS at: [email protected] .

Advocate-7 Mar 1912: Under "Ephraim": Death, on Monday about noon, claimed Miss Ann JOHNSON of this village, the summons coming very suddenly.  Miss JOHNSON was about 50 years old and a daughter of the late Mrs. MALENA JOHNSON.  Deceased was living at the (next door?) residence of Rev. A. PETTERSON and nothing being seen of the lady on Monday morning, Mrs. P. had run over to see that everything was well, found the door locked and immediately secured assistance.  On breaking the door in, it was discovered that the lady was beyond all earthly help and as she is the owner of considerable property with no known relatives, her will was hurriedly drawn up, but before it could be signed, she had passed away.  The funeral will be held this Thursday afternoon with interment in the Moravian cemetery.  The cause of death was a acute attack of bowel trouble.
