Above:  Carol HOBSON visited the PGS Table at the Door County Historical Museum on 9 May 2009 while the Museum was having a 70th Year Anniversary Celebration Kick-off to find out more about the Soren TERMANSEN Family whose document she is holding.  It was a printed family page filled in by the TERMANSEN Family much as a page from a Family Bible.  See a photocopy of the "family pages" on the document below.  Next to Carol is our PGS President: Sue HAVEL who was on hand to help folks.

9 May 2009-Carol HOBSON gave us some family information about Soren TERMANSEN and his family and told us what she was trying to discover:

Soren TERMANSEN was born in Denmark and immigrated to the U.S. where he lived in Perth Amboy (New Jersey-family knowledge was that it was in New York!)  He met Mary JORGENSEN on board ship on the way to the U.S. from Denmark.  They were married in Perth Amboy and had one child there (Annie S.).  They traveled with their family to the Town of Sturgeon Bay, Door County, New York where they had 5 additional children.  He worked in the Stone Quarry and with Mr. Jensen from the Stone Quarry, was responsible for the stone that built the "Friends" Church in Sturgeon Bay.  Soren owned a home on Fulton Ave. in Sturgeon Bay in later years.

*Carol's Mother-in-law was: Daughter of Soren and Mary (JORGENSEN) TERMANSEN-Martine (Martina) Marie TERMANSEN-who told Carol that she was born on Washington Island.  Carol was trying to prove that this was true.  She had found from Martina TERMANSEN's birth certificate which states that she was born in the Town of Sevastopol.  Perhaps they lived on Washington Island in 1886? and perhaps mother Mary went to the mainland Door County from Washington Island to give birth?  Proof of this has not been found yet.  Perhaps the Washington Island Archives will have further information!

-Attempts were made to find Soren TERMANSEN on Immigration Records but did not produce any results.-14 May 2009-Sue HOHNEKE for the PGS

Perhaps his name was misspelled on ship records.  Dates searched were from early 1800's to 1900's-no success!

*Census records do not indicate that the TERMANSEN Family lived on Washington Island.
