During the PGS's 2008 Summer Transcription of the Town of Sevastopol-St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery on Egg Harbor Road in Sturgeon Bay, Bob and Sue HOHNEKE were working on Section 5B with Sue taking the pictures and Bob digging out the stones so they could be photographed and transcribed.  There had been quite a few stones in the cemetery that were "buried" in the ground especially when they were located in a sunny location as the sod would grow over the stone.  The following is an example of how the dense roots work their way over the in ground stone creating the first step in making new soil. 

   

   On September 3, 2008, only a portion of Annastachia MACHIA's stone was visible before being dug out.  The 1977 transcription showed it was a vertical stone on a base however on this day and time the stone was on the ground and buried.  No base was visible after being dug out.  The following in sequence pictures were taken by Sue of her husband Bob HOHNEKE in the process of unearthing and cleaning off the stone.  The unique manifestation of the rainbow effect began and then dissipated as the pictures were taken in sequence.  It seemed as if Annastachia was present and pleased at being "found"!

It is interesting to note that the stone had the name of the monument company inscribed on the lower right corner: "C. & F. Ahnapee".
