3. OBIT: James BELANGER-Door County Advocate-18 Jul 1961."Hero of 1871 Fire - J. BELANGER Dies: Funeral Held Tuesday at St. Joseph's Church-James BELANGER, 89, a survivor of the great tornado and fire in 1871, died at a local hospital on Saturday from complications following an accident he suffered March 15 when he fell on an icy walk. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10:30 from St. Joseph's church with the Rev. Leonard WOERFEL officiating. Burial was made in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Pallbearers were John FOREST, Joseph O'BOYLE, James MCINTYRE, John MCKEE, John CONLON and Walter HORRES.Mr. BELANGER was born on a farm near Montreal, Canada, Jan 15 1850 to Mr. and Mrs. Francis BELANGER who came to this country when he was 16 and settled in Oconto. He early became identified with the lumber industry, both there and at Little Sturgeon, and later in this city. He was crossing Green Bay on a log raft at the time of the great fire, and so hot was the air the men were forced to let go and swim. On shore, he immediately began rescue work, finding heaps of bodies in places and one old lady alive sitting at the water's edge with a wet blanket.Miss Emily ALLARD of Bay Settlement and Mr. BELANGER were married 14 Apr 1879. She died in 1930. Survivors are five children: James A. BELANGER Jr. of Sturgeon Bay, Mrs. E. N. NEMAN of Land O'Lakes, and Mrs. R. A. BRILL, Walter and Harry BELANGER of Milwaukee. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.Among those from outside at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. R. A. BRILL, Mr. and Mrs. Harry BELANGER, Mrs. Bernice RADKE and Harry RADKE, a great grandchild and Mr. and Mrs. Walter BELANGER and sons Charles, Elden and Harvey, all of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. E. S. NEMAN, Land O'Lakes, Joseph JANDRIE and Mrs. Alex DOE, of Menominee, MICH.".

OBIT: Emily ALLARD BELANGER: Door County Advocate-6 Mar 1931."Mrs. Belanger Died Friday of Heart Attack-Stricken with a heart attack just the day before she was to have celebrated her 72nd birthday anniversary. Mrs. James BELANGER died at her home here last Friday night.Mrs. BELANGER, whose maiden name was Emily ALLARD, was born at Bay Settlement near Green Bay February 28 1859, so has been a resident of this part of Wisconsin all her life. She came to Door County as a young woman on April 14, 1879, shw was married to James BELANGER who had come to Door county from

Canada at the age of 16, settling at Little Sturgeon. Since their marriage the couple has lived at Sturgeon Bay. A year ago last April they celebratd their golden wedding anniversary. Surviving are Mr. BELANGER and five children, James Jr. of this city; Mrs. Edward NEMAN, Marenisco, Michigan; and Mrs. Raymond BRILL, Harry and Walter, of Milwaukee. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters, Joseph ALLARD, Green Bay, Mrs. Joseph JANDRIAN, Menominee, Michigan; William ALLARD, Marinette; Mrs. John OSLER, Opportunity, Wash.; George ALLARD, Tacoma, Wash.; Edward P. ALLARD, Tanona, Alaska; and Frank ALLARD, Duluth, Minn. Thirteen grandchildren are living.The funeral was conducted from St. Joseph's church at 9 o'clock Monday morning with the Rev. A. GARTHAUS officiating and interment was at the Catholic cemetery here. Among those from outside attending were Mrs. Joseph JANDRIAN and Mrs. Alex DOE, Menominee, Michigan; Joseph ALLARD, Green Bay; Walter BELANGER, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond BRILL and family and Mrs. and Mrs. Harry BELANGER and daughter Bernice of Milwaukee.".

Maple, died Monday morning at Memorial hospital.He was born 31 Jan 1880 in Sturgeon Bay to Mr. and Mrs. James BELANGER Sr.He waas associated with the Allen Seed Co. for eight years after his marriage; had a fruit farm in Sevastopol; tavern business, then a bicycle shop for 15 years until retirement.Mr. Belanger was president and vice president of the Eagles club.He married Mrs. Lydia DRESSER in Green Bay in 1920. She survives, with one brother, Walter, Milwaukee; two sisters, Mrs. Ed (Stella) NEMAN, Land O'Lakes and Mrs. Ray (Leona) BRILL, Fort Atkinson. One brother, Harry, preceded him in death.Friends may call at Stoneman's where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Services are Wednesday, 9:30 from Stoneman's 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi church. The Rev. John P. BAUM will officiate, with burial in Bayside cemetery.".

41. OBIT: Estell (BELANGER) NEMAN-Vilas Co. News-25 Nov 1965."Estelle NEMAN, 83, Land o'Lakes, Died at Phelps Hospital. Mrs. Estelle H. NEMAN, 83, a long-time resident of Land o'Lakes, died at the Northwoods hospital, Phelps, Saturday, November 20, after a week-long illness. Mrs. NEMAN was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, April 23 1882, and was a resident of Land o'Lakes for 29 years. She belonged to the Land o'Lakes Woman's club and to St. Ann's Altar of St. Albert's Catholic church in Land o'Lakes.She is survived by her son, Edward L. Jr., Land o'Lakes; brother Walter BELANGER, Milwaukee; sister, Mrs. Raymond BRILL, Milwaukee; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were Tuesday, November 23, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Albert Catholic church, Land o'Lakes, with Reverend Joseph KLEINHEINZ officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Land o'Lakes.".

NEMAN, sr., 77 who has operated a grocery store at land O'Lakes for 24 years, died at this home in that community last week. Funeral services were Saturday.The veteran food store operator had been in the grocery business about 60 years. Fr. WALKOWSKI officiated at services in the GAFFNEY funeral home at Eagle River. NEMAN was born 30 May 1883 at Ellison Bay, Wis. Previous to coming to Land O'Lakes in 1936 he had been associated with the Bonifas Lumber Co. and had lived at Marenisco, Mich.He is survived by his wife, Estelle, son, Edward L., and four grandchildren, Thomas E., Paul, Margaret Mary and Edward L. all of Land of Lakes.Other survivors are a brother, Glen BERGESON of Green Bay, a sister, Mrs. William WATERS, of Sturgeon Bay, George BERGESON of Chicago, and Mrs. Joseph STEVER of Phelps.".

BRILL, 66 of 703 Frederick st., Fort Atkinson, occurred suddenly at Memorial hospital here at 5:30 a.m. today. He had been a patient there for the last two weeks.Me was born at Keil, Mar. 1, 1898, the son of Theodore and Julia GEORGE BRILL. he received his education at KEIL and was married to Leona BELANGER, Menominee, Mich., 25 Aug 1924.The couple had lived in Sturgeon Bay and Milwaukee before coming to Fort Atkinson in 1957, when Dr. BRILL took over the optometic proctice of Dr. B. V. SCHJOENBORN.Surviving are two sond, Dr. Darrel CARMODY, Wauwatosa, and Dr. Donald BRILL, Eagle River; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond BUTH, Milwaukee and MRs. Russell NILES, Wauwatosa; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur, Keil and Everett, Milwaukee, and a sister Mrs. Nicholas POSLEY, Fond du Lac. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Schmidt, Barteldt and Gerber funeral home, 10121W. North Ave., Wauwatosa, with the Rev. Kenneth KNOESPEL, pastor of the Wauwatosa Evangelical Unitede Brethern church, officiating.Burial will be in Wisconsin Memorial park, Milwaukee. The body was taken today from the Royal F. HAYES funeral home, Fort Atkinson, to the Schmidt, Barteldt and Gerbert funeral home, where friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday.".
