Ozaukee County Newspapers
Newspapers can help in researching our families. Many times official records have been destroyed by fire, flooding, or other disasters. Local newspapers may give us the only clue as to when a birth, marriage or death occurred. They also bring to life our ancestors - describing a family wedding, mentioning when out-of-town relatives visited, listing members of local organizations, building projects or clubs. Find out what your relatives did for entertainment, who got the highest grades in school, won the local baseball game, etc. Many researchers use newpapers to look just for obituaries of family members. While obituaries may contain helpful information, reading about how your ancestors lived sure can bring them to life!
Local Newspaper Articles - These are transcriptions of the "Local News" portions of older editions of area newspapers currently on microfilm. Local newspapers contain some birth/marriage/death information, but also local activities and concerns of the day.
There is a website - I am the state and Ozaukee
county coordinator - called Newspaper Abstracts which is alway looking for volunteers
and transcription contributions of pre-1923 newspapers.

The following list is an extract from "Guide to Wisconsin Newspapers, 1833-1957", compiled by Donald E. Oehlerts, State Historical Society of Wisconsin, Madison, 1958. The Wisconsin Historical Society has copies of some of the newspapers on microfilm - see those newspapers with (WHi . . .) notations at the end of their descriptions.
