Welcome To Lincoln County Wisconsin
Permanent white settlement of this region did not begin until after the War of 1812, when the U.S. secured control of this region. Those early settlers were engaged in either fur trading or lumbering. Lincoln County was created by the Wisconsin Legislature in 1874 and celebrated its 125th Anniversary in 1999. It had been part of Marathon County. In the beginning, it included most of Oneida and Vilas Counties, as well as parts of Langlade, Taylor, Price and Iron, and was incorporated in 1881.
This page is brought to you FREE as a result of efforts by myself and other volunteers.

In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index. This led to the US GENWEB of which Wisconsin is a part. Volunteers are needed who are willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page. My name is Sharon Karow and I am the person responsible for the Lincoln County page. If you would like to contribute your information (surnames/lookup sources) to this page, please let me know. Please put LINCOLN COUNTY in the subject line. I would like to see lots of volunteers to do lookups. I will list you on my lookup page if you own resources and would be willing to help others via email or US mail. If you would like to host a Wisconsin county, contact Tina Vickery or Marcia Ann Kuehl.
