Merrill, Wis. March 29-

Fifty years ago tomorrow, before the spring log drive got under way, Robert

D. Posey, lumberjack, slipped away from camp, called for Josephine Alery, one

of the belles of her day, and led her to the altar.

On the way they had to drive through a snow and rain storm, but they reached

the church safely and by the time the parish priest had tied the knot, the

sun was beginning to shine.

It has been shining for them ever since, Mr. and Mrs. Posey said as they

prepared to celebrate their golden wedding day.

After a few more years of working in the woods and driving logs down the

Wisconsin River, Mr. Posey became a logger in this section and carried on

these operations successfully until he retired.

For many years, his wife, now 67, worked in the woods with him as camp cook.

Said Mr. Posey: "She was a fine cook. In all those years we never lost a

lumberjack."
