September 23, 2008

Call to Order

A short business meeting was called to order after the program at 8:30 pm on September 23, 2008, by President Terry Micks.

Officer Reports

Secretary Joyce Krueger read the minutes of the June 24, 2008 meeting. A motion was made and seconded to accept the Secretary�s report as read. The motion was approved.

Treasurer Allen Nelson read the Treasurer�s Report. The beginning balance on hand as of June 24, 2008 was $1034.54 with receipts of $660.00 and disbursements of $0.00, leaving a balance on hand as of September 23, 2008 of $1694.54.

Upcoming events related to genealogy include:

• Oct. 4 - Fall Into Family History � Murphy Library UWL
• Oct. 11 - Swarthout Museum � Conservation Corp
• Oct. 11 - Greater Omaha Genealogical Seminar

Roxanne received an email from Norway requesting someone to do some Houston County research.

Nothing new to report.

Quarterly

Terry Micks reported that the quarterly went out last week. Anyone who has not paid their dues will not receive one. Thank you to all those who work so diligently to put out a great quarterly!

Programs

Susan is still looking for a volunteer to take her place setting up programs.

• The October 28, 2008 meeting will have a program on Documenting Your Sources by Jane Radloff.
• At the November 25, 2008 meeting Susan Douglas will talk about her genealogical trip to Pomerania. It will also be our Ethnic Treat Night.

Website

• Roxanne reported that there are, again, lots more pictures on the website. They are unlabeled pictures, so if you have information about any of them please let Roxanne know.
• There is also quite a bit more new information on the website.

Unfinished Business

• Irish Fest went well.
• The committee working on the Beginners Brochure is meeting tomorrow.

New Business

• LAGS will spend $94.00 for the purchase of three periodicals for the library.
• The 2009 upgrade for Family Tree Maker software is free for 2008 owners.
• Gene-O-Rama 2010 will be in the La Crosse area. If anyone would like to recommend a facility for this event that will accommodate 200,000 to 250,000 people with 2 or 3 break-out rooms, please contact Jane Radloff.
• There was some discussion about a Microsoft Pac 3 upgrade. Some people are having trouble with it.
• Terry Micks encouraged everyone to volunteer to help extract family history information from digital images of historical documents to create searchable indexes. See this website: http://pilot.familysearch.org

Program

Terry Micks presented a fantastic program on Organizing Your Genealogical Research.

She inspired us all to get those piles, boxes, bags, etc. sorted and filed � one step at a time!

Adjournment

The business portion of the meeting adjourned at 8:53 pm. There wasn�t anyone signed up for treats, so there were no treats this month. Anita Doering will bring treats for the October 28, 2008 meeting.
