La Crosse Area Genealogical Society

September 23, 2003

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 7:05pm on Tuesday, March 25, 2003, by Vice-President Terry Micks, in the absence of President Anita Palmquist. Visitors were welcomed and a signup sheet was distributed for treats for upcoming meetings.

Officer Reports

Secretary Greg Filbeck read the minutes of the March 25, 2003 meeting. Anita Doering moved to approve the meetings as presented. The motion carried.

Treasurer Allen Nelson read the treasurer’s report. The beginning balance on hand as of March 25, 2003 was $1,795.99 with receipts of $830.25 and disbursements of $1,753.25, leaving a balance on hand as of September 23, 2003 of $872.99. Greg Filbeck moved to accept the treasurer’s report. The motion carried. The report was filed.

Allen Nelson reported that current and projected spending for the rest of the year (including purchases for the Archives) would render our society to a deficit. Anita Doering reviewed proposed purchases by the club, recommending a reduction with respect to one publication. Earl Newton moved to approve $81.00 worth of expenditures for periodicals for the Archives. The motion carried.

Newsletter

Earl Newton has asked for a replacement as Editor of the Newsletter, which is published three times annually (January, April, and September).

 

Quarterly

Sue Page indicated the deadline for the next Quarterly is October 16th. The Quarterly will go out in early November after our 30th anniversary banquet. She is in need of submissions concerning society history.

Programs

Susan Douglas reported that our October meeting will be held on Monday, November 3rd, at 6:00pm, at the Seven Bridges Restaurant, in Onalaska, WI, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our society. James W. Warren, professional genealogical research, will be our guest speaker. Jim will speak on the top of "If Our Ancesters Had Had Email." Karen Kesselring gave additional details. November will be our Ethnic Treat night. New ideas are needed for guest speakers.

Terry Micks delivered the program on the use of the internet for genealogical research.

Adjournment

Earl Newton moved to adjourn. The motion carried. The business portion of the meeting adjourned at 7:45pm.
