Jan. 23, 2007

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 8:31 pm on Jan. 23, 2007, by President Terry Micks.

Officer Reports

Vice-President Anita Doering read the minutes of the Nov. 28, 2006 meeting. A motion was made to accept the Secretary�s report as corrected, spelling the name of Deb Nelson Gourley correctly and noting that nominations would be taken for vice president (2 yr term), treasurer (2 yr term) and secretary (1 yr term). The motion was approved.

Treasurer Allen Nelson read the Treasurer�s Report. The beginning balance on hand as of Nov. 28, 2006 was $1015.51 with receipts of $210 and disbursements of $578.81, leaving a balance on hand as of Jan. 23, 2007 of $646.70.

Correspondence

Tre Lag Stevne (gathering) will be held in the La Crosse Area on Aug. 1 - 4 at Stoney Creek Inn in Onalaska, WI. Tre Lag (Three Lodges) of people interested in three areas of Norway - the Tronderlag area, Gudbrandsdal, and North Hedmark and Hedemarken (NHOH). More information can be found here and here.

Committee Reports

Archives

The discussion of magazines was held for the next business meeting, but Anita reported that depending on which genealogical magazine was chosen that they would try to fit it in. The periodicals librarian felt Internet Genealogist would do the best and get the most use.

Newsletter

Members should get the January newsletter soon; many La Crosse members received their copy in today�s mail.

Quarterly

Next month the Quarterly will come out with results of the membership survey. Feed back to Terry Micks on both the newsletter and quarterly would be great. Programs

The order of the January meeting was different so we could have more advertising in the La Crosse Tribune newspaper. We had speaker Deb Nelson Gourley do her presentation first with a break for treats in between then followed with the business meeting.

Feb. 27, 2007 meeting: members will bring copies of their genealogy software reports and printouts for others to see

March 27, 2007 meeting: the program committee is exploring the possibility of a speaker

April 24, 2007 meeting: Anita Lee Palmquist will speak on German genealogy

May 2007 meeting: possible will be held on a Saturday in a cemetery

Unfinished Business

The consideration of adding a new genealogical magazine to replace Genealogical Computing was tabled.

Reminder that dues are due - $5 for membership and newsletter; $15 for membership, newsletter and quarterly

New Business

The group moved to spend $24.95 on the book Tracing Your Dakota Roots to have placed in the Archives Room. The motion was approved.

The nominating committee recommended Al Nelson for treasurer and Anita Doering for vice-president. Both recommendations were approved.

Nominations for secretary were opened without recommendation. Nominations were closed without any action. Anita Doering will continue pro tem to be recording secretary.

Adjournment

The business portion of the meeting adjourned at 8:54 pm and Joyce Krueger and Connie Erickson provided treats.
