La Crosse Area Genealogical Society

January 25, 2005

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm on January 25, 2005, by President Terry Micks.

Secretary Greg Filbeck read the minutes of the November 23, 2004 meeting. One correction was noted: the title of the book purchased for the archives is "Ohio: The Cross Road of Our Nation" (instead of "One" Nation). Jane Radloff moved to approve the minutes as corrected. The motion carried.

Treasurer Allen Nelson presented the Treasurer’s Report. The beginning balance on hand as of November 23, 2004 was $1,163.90 with receipts of $236.00, disbursements of $595.02 leaving a balance on hand as of January 25, 2005 of $804.88. The treasurer’s report was filed.

Greg Filbeck reported the following correspondence:

• The Monroe County Local History Room Museum and Library presents a program on Thursday, February 3^rd, at 7:00pm. Terry Micks, President of the La Crosse Genealogical Society, will present a free program titled "What Genealogy Software is Right for Me?" at the Montroe County Local History Room in Sparta.
• The German Interest Group – Wisconsin announces John Humphrey as the speaker for the workshop "Developing German Research Skills" on Saturday, July 9, 2005, at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. Entry forms can be found on the website: sites.rootsweb.com/~wigig/index.html.

Anita Doering reported the following:

• The Learning and Retirement Classes have been postponed until November.
• The Archives will celebrate its 25^th anniversary with a party on March 20^th from 1:30 to 4:00.
• Telephone books from 1920 to 1970 need to be preserved due to wear. The library hopes to raise $4,700 during the year to address this concern.
• Updated information for the Mormon Coulee Cemetery is being posted on the website.
• Corrections are now being processed for the Onalaska Cemetery listings.

Submissions should be sent to Sue Page at [email protected]. The Quarterly will be distributed in February. Mary Helen Ross asked to be released from duty for printing, stabilizing and mailing the Quarterly. Jonna Peterson agreed to take Mary Helen’s place.

• Dues for 2005 should be paid immediately
• The Nominating Committee (Karen Kesselring and Roxanne Munns) placed the following names into nomination for expiring terms of Vice-President and Treasurer:
• Vice-President: Anita Doering
• Treasurer: Allen Nelson

It was moved and seconded to spend $28.95 to renew our sponsored subscription to "Everton’s Genealogical Helper." The motion carried.

• Merle Gregerson presented on the topic of "Finding Missing Orphans"

The business portion of the meeting adjourned by general consent at 7:35pm.
