Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 7:03 pm on February 24, 2004, by President Terry Micks.

Officer Reports

Vice President Anita Doering read the minutes of the January 27, 2004 meeting. It was noted that the year was listed incorrectly under the call to order portion of the minutes. It was corrected to 2004 instead of 2003 and the minutes were approved as amended.

Treasurer Allen Nelson read the treasurer’s report. The beginning balance on hand as of January 27, 2004 was $443.51 with receipts of $695.95 and disbursements of $400, leaving a balance on hand as of February 24, 2004 of $739.46. The treasurer’s report was filed.

Allen Nelson read information about a conference in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, March 26-27 and a conference in Omaha, Nebraska April 30 – May 1.

Programs

March 23, 2004 – "Using the census in genealogical research."

April 27, 2004 – "What genealogy software is right for me?"

Terry Micks asked for volunteers to help on the Program Committee. Sue Ann Ross volunteered.

Unfinished Business

Earl Newton mentioned the fact that we are trying to curtail printing costs. We are going to change printers to Sir Speedy. They have given us a price of 3 cents per side of the page. We are also going to limit the Quarterly to 22 or 24 pages for this year.

New Business

Terry Micks asked who had genealogy software programs and what they were using. People who do not have Family Tree Maker are asked to contact President Terry Micks.

Concerning membership, President Terry Micks indicated some of the reasons that a person should consider joining the society including: 3 newsletters, 4 quarterlies, and free queries in the quarterlies and on the website. If you are not already a member, consider joining.

Terry Micks encouraged everyone to utilize the society’s website, sites.rootsweb.com/~wilacgs/. Let Roxanne Munns know of any additional sites to add to the website. Make sure that your e-mail address is up to date on the surname index. Connie Erickson indicated that she has had contact with someone who found her through the online surname index. If your surnames are not on the index yet, be sure to get them added. Roxanne has now added a search box that will search for keywords in the website.

Terry Micks is updating the society’s brochure. On a trial basis, the Archives Room will begin sending the brochure along with any genealogical related inquiries, in the hopes of increasing membership.

Program

Al Nelson, Anita Doering, Terry Micks and Earl Newton will have stations around the room about organizing genealogical material.

Earl Newton suggested having members write up "interesting genealogy happenings" to share, perhaps for the May meeting. Another suggestion was made to discuss deadends.

Adjournment

The business portion of the meeting adjourned by general consent at 7:29 p.m.
